The war between Greenpeace and the Japanese Whaling Ships is a bit like the story of Lord of the Rings - though, it could be equally applied to any other stage of world events, politics, economics et al.

Activists Ambush Japanese Whaling Ship In Antarctic

celestialdancer says:

The activists claim to have saved the lives of hundreds of whales by harassing the annual hunt, which kills the animals using a loophole in an international moratorium which allows “lethal research”.

Amplifyd from www.google.com

The Sea Shepherd group, which has been pursuing the fishing fleet since December, said its Steve Irwin ship waited behind an iceberg before surprising Japan’s Nisshin Maru whaling boat.

“As the Steve Irwin passed by the Nisshin Maru, the factory ship turned on their water cannons and were surprised when the Steve Irwin responded with a more powerful water cannon that had a couple of the whalers diving for the bridge doors as the frigid water struck their bridge wing deck,” the group said in a statement.

Monday’s clash came just two days after Sea Shepherd accused the Japanese of deliberately ramming its Bob Barker vessel and leaving a metre (three-foot) -long gash in its stern.

Last month, the group’s futuristic Ady Gil powerboat was sliced in two and sank after a collision with one of the Japanese ships.

NZ Couple Bullied to Pay For Electrical Company Error

celestialdancer says:

“Gary said at least four meter readers had checked their reading and failed to detect the error.” Inefficiency & passing the buck???

A couple hit with a $55,000 power bill after being undercharged for years say Mercury Energy is bullying them to pay.

The company said it had been reading five dials instead of six on the meter and blamed information provided by the couple’s previous provider, Empower.

Adding to the confusion was the fact their account had been credited more than $9000 a month earlier - for overcharging.

The couple refused to repay the full amount and Mercury’s parent company, state-owned Mighty River Power, started legal action to retrieve the money last November.

Gary said he was horrified by the move.

“I can’t believe a large organisation like Mercury can bully us like this. They are forcing us to pay for their mistakes,” he said.

“It has put us under extreme pressure and we are finding it hard to come to grips with the whole situation.

According to its website, Mercury uses Metrix, a “state-of-the-art metering and metering-equipment service” to monitor customers.

Porcupine Mountains Waterfall

celestialdancer says:

Amazing photo, love the almost complete heart lower bottom right.

Rushing water

This is the result of a ten-second exposure on a breezy evening from a suspension bridge in Upper Michigan’s Porcupine Mountains. Thankfully, no one was around the bridge to induce camera shake. At the end of it all, it was very, very satisfying and yes, ten seconds—often a minuscule amount of time in our daily standards—did feel like eternity.
